Feb. 21, 2009 - Ward Canning Day!
Here are a few pictures from the ward canning day held at our house. We figure that we canned about 5500 lbs. of food. Everything from rice to flour to hot cocoa! The dry milk was horribly messy so most of it was canned outside. We had our share of problems (1 canning machine was on the fritz most of the time, 800 missing oxygen packets (that was almost a disaster...thanks to the Hutchison's, Jackson's & Eyre's who saved us), shortage of oatmeal, ran out of cans at the end....we were pretty much done by then though) - but we worked through the problems and overall things went pretty well. Thanks to everyone who helped fill cans, pound them down, put on labels, add oxygen packets, canned the cans, organized them into boxes, and then sorted them out to the families that ordered them. This was a huge undertaking and even though there are things we will change about the next one to make it run a bit smoother, this canning day was hugely successful and we are all more prepared!
